From her very first encounter with it, Kaiah has loved being in the snow...

...and eating it. Of course.

So when two feet of snow fell in the DC area, she was in complete and total heaven.

DIY Holiday "Photo Pocket" Cards

Materials Needed:

  • 8 1/2" x 11" cover weight paper (I used Paper Source cover paper in Khaki)
  • A7 envelopes (I used Paper Source envelopes in Moss)
  • glue dots
  • bone folder
  • craft knife
I easily designed the cards using Microsoft Publisher. The template included lines to guide cutting and folding, as well as the holiday message and year. I printed using an inkjet printer.

To begin, cut along the printed lines to create a "T" shape.

Using a ruler as a guide, score with the bone folder so that the sides and back of the pocket can be folded straight and easily.

Use glue dots to secure the two flaps to the back, leaving an open space to insert a photograph.

Trim the top of the card and cut diagonal slits in the paper to act as photo corners.

Insert your photograph and admire the results!!

Our Very First Holiday Cards

Kaiah's first Christmas called for our first holiday cards. I knew I wanted to do a photo card, but because I wanted our families to be able to display the photo after the holidays were over, I didn't want to print directly onto the photograph.

A band around the photo seemed like a good solution, as in this kit from Paper-Source...
For some reason, I thought instead to do a slight variation on this design that was sort of a pocket for the picture.

Here is a peek at the final product...
